A 4-day course held in the picturesque Blue Mountains for intensivists, emergency physicians and anaesthetists. This course will suit you if you want to learn basic critical care echocardiography, advanced echocardiography and/or want to further your interpretation skills.

The application of echocardiography in the management of the critically ill patient is well established.

Standards of practice now dictate that physician training in echocardiography requires guidelines and a structured training course. This Leura Workshop is aimed at two levels of training:

Level 1: RACE for the physician wishing to learn basic echocardiography as an extension of the physical examination
Level 2: Advanced techniques in the diagnosis, management and monitoring of critically ill patient

The 4-day course consists of:

Rapid Assessment by Cardiac Echo (RACE PLUS):

A two day Hands On Workshop on the application of ultrasound in assessing the heart and chest in the acute setting.
Objectives: To enable the acute care physician to evaluate pericardial Effusion/Tamponade, left ventricular contraction, right heart function, and preload assessment.

Advanced/Reporting Workshop:

This workshop covers left ventricular systolic and diastolic function, preload assessment, haemodynamic measurements, right heart assessment, heart-lung interaction, roles of echo in sepsis, hypotension, postcardiac surgery and ARDS. The analysis component will develop your skills of interpretation and reporting by going through a series of cases with experts.

Registration

There will be three types of registration:

Full Registration - covering all days
RACE workshop - covering Saturday and Sunday
Advanced/Case Analysis workhop - covering Monday and Tuesday
